Just finished this small 12 x9 still life. Finding the challenge in reflections.

Finished Oct. painting

In a month of not much painting - before we left for vacation, I was able to get back into he studio for a couple hours to finish this one up. It gives me some ideas for a series of smaller pieces- the pear showing through the bottom of the glass is the highlight to me - a happy accident.

October

Today was a studio day- first one this week. So I painted furiously- 9:00 to 3:30 and this is the progress.

I'll let it rest over the weekend and hopefully finish it up early next week.

Just finished this one up today.

Grapes-wine

Grapes are ripening- it's crush season here in Oregon. I wanted to try a still life of some of our grapes. I've worked almost 4 hours on this one already. I have enough on the panel to finish it up later. And took a shot of the grapes for reference when I have a chance to finish it.

New series -

Going back to looking at horses and their gear, subject matter I worked on last year. I'm focusing more closely- whereas before I included whole bodies, mostly, and included riders and handlers - I'm working on composition in a more abstract sense. My choices are made on that basis- features of a horse- parts of the tack -relating areas to each other-but I do enjoy bringing into focus certain aspects that make an individual animal. I can't seem to get away from that.

Still life- last week of May

A loosely painted still life of irises and roses. This was done in 3 sessions- about 6 hours total. The actual arrangement didn't quite fit what I wanted in the composition- so I added another rose and some other greenery.

The top left of the composition felt good, made sense - but the bottom right didn't add anything & was confusing to the whole painting. This is when I redid that part just based on composition- and then rearrNged the flowers somewhat to help me bring it together.

I painted over a previously painted panel that I had sanded down.

New still life.

In my studio this month. Inspired by the fleeting season of daffodils.

My first thoughts on composition got moved around.
This set up.  Took an early pic of the flowers for reference. Didn't take the time to block out all of the background.

Progress

I was able to work about 5 hours on this today. I changed the lighting- blocked off some of the overhead light & focused a floor lamp on the still life. I redid the pitcher- I had the handle to far extended off the side. It is a weird set up. Now that it's mostly painted- I realize it's very strange. Oh well - it's an exercise. The first one is the new lighting.

Then 2 process shots. I'll see what I think next time I come in and see it.

A still life in process.

Starting this new piece- 16 x 20-

I love the rabbit- a porcelain vase- and wandered around Winco this morning to find something that would be interesting with it. Also wanted to make it a limited palette. Those are my interests, directing this painting.
